Shoes: What’s your take?
January 20, 2007
Here’s mine:
WRONG: Pinchy, torturous pumps and boots with toothpick heels. (Yo, I live in New York! Ever try to walk over a subway grate in those?)
RIGHT: The Ellen DeGeneres look: Converse basketball shoes with classy suits. A long stride is sexy!
So, kittenish and girly or funky/industrial? Discuss!

Agreed. Heels are tired. I get tired just witnessing the poor lasses ambulate about the concrete jungle as such. All flavors of boots, however, mark their owners with a sexy industrial/proletarian edge, and still satisfy the comfort zone. Even cowboy boots when paired with something appropriate.
And what ever happened to the cool translucent/transparent duds made of some spade-age material?

Well said, Guillaume! But we should not characterize women dumb enough to shell out top $$$ for shoes they can’t fully navigate in, as “poor lasses”. The real victims are us more sensibly-shod folk, stuck behind them on the subway stairs as they inch along! I agree that most boots are a good alternative–at least they offer support around the ankles–and they look better too. What did you mean by “iridescent duds”? I did see a fiber-optic wedding dress on the Web once.

So, what’s the problem with kitten heels? They look fab and are more comfy than “high heels”.
I have an hours commute into the city. I teach and am on my feet for at least 10 hours a day. I tend to wear kitten heels most days. They’re sensible. I even manage to run for the bus and train in them. I’ve even gone for mountain hikes wearing my heels and handbag. Crazy! Yes! But it looks much better than Eddie (f**king) Bauer.
Long live Manolo Blahnik and LK Bennett! Kitten heels rule!!!! Miaow!!!!!!

I don’t find heels that uncomfortable so long as they’re no more than 2 inches high and are well-positioned on the heel – that’s the key I think. I wear lots of pumps-like or kitten-heeled shoes and am never terribly uncomfortable. I have gotten a heel stuck before and that sucks.
